WOMEN'S BOWLS

By LEA ORR

A perfect morning for a social bowl! A light breeze and great company. Ten ladies came to play, a few away on holiday, others fearful of the heat and one or two on the sick list.

Ongoing thanks to our volunteers at ground control for tending the greens and grounds.

Last Thursday, a large spectator group witnessed a thrilling battle for the Minor Singles Championship.

With the scores 24-all, it was anyone’s title between Ann Tracy and Lil Thomson.

On the final end, Lil placed a bowl in close, and there it remained despite Ann’s determined efforts to better it. Congratulations Lil, our new Minor Singles Champion. Commiserations, Ann. Great game.

Congrats to Liz Byrne and Cherie Frame who represented our club at Mid-West level last weekend. You both continually do us proud upon reaching that level.

In Tuesday's social games, Merilyn Rodgers paired up with Marja Iffland, an experienced team, but not good enough for the combination of Lorraine Baker and Betsy Johnstone, going down 19 - 9 on rink 3.

Lynn Ryan, Kay Craft and Brenda Davies were never more than a couple of shots away from Rhona Went, Irene Trueber and Irene Allan on rink 2. They finished with a final 2 shots to take the game 14 - 13.

A quick move into the cool inside for rehydration, and smiles on the dials of Irene A, Lorraine, Brenda and Rhona once the 100s club was drawn.

Rink 2 successfully drew No 7 and walked away with the jackpot! How about that!!

Next week’s jackpot restarts at $50.

Melbourne Cup is in two weeks. Watch this space for our club activities.
