Corey and Kaleb kings of the course, David is ruler of the All In Cup

GOLF By PETER BRISTOL A great day was on the horizon for the Parkes Golf Club as 84 players teed it up for the Cheney Constructions 4BBB and Individual event on Saturday. Huge thanks to Josh for the support he gives the club and presenting his events for our golfers to participate in. The course is holding up with some rainfall boosting the watering regime Logan has underway. The new mower is also proving a bonus to the greens with improved cutting ability. In the team event the King boys – Corey and Kaleb - were clear winners on 51, 3 shots in front of the team of Richard Hamilton and Rob Lea on 48, the same as Scott Mackenzie and Kieren Deland. The course was surrendering to the good conditions, and our golfers were taking advantage of it. There were 6 scores over 40 and 26 players managed to score their handicap par of 36 or better. Kaleb King’s scored a tremendous round of 49 as he starts out on his golfing odyssey and he also earnt the interest of the handicapper naturally. Corey had a 38 point score so they were achieving near the maximum on each hole. Rob and Richard complement each other’s game and whilst dialling back on their driving distance they bring the old chip and putt skills into play more often than not. It was good to see Kieran Deland back on the course and his partnering with Scott brought back memories from a few years past. In the Individual event the electronic leader board was nearly burnt out as the fluctuations kept being cycled through, but it was Peter Kaden prevailing as Kaleb had already won a prize on the day. Peter would have thought his 43 was unbeatable. Hitting 83 off the stick and only recording bogeys as his worst holes, capped off a great round and showed that single figure golf is within his grasp now. Scott Mackenzie was again beaten by a countback but back to back birdies on 11 and 12 would have helped him sleep well Saturday evening. Rob Lea, Trevor Chatman and Col Breaden all recorded 41 points and the Baron, Rob Cheney landed on the magical 40 points for the 1st time in a number of years. The All In Cup final was run in conjunction and David Chambers was the winner over Zac Kelly by 4 and 3. A great initiative, this has been a very close and intriguing competition throughout the year. Zac had to concede 12 strokes and with David in solid form this was always going to be a difficult task. David had a new driver in play and it responded very well under pressure and gave him enough opportunities to drop the wedges and short irons on the pin thus negating Zac’s usual power game. The Nearest The Pins on Saturday were – the Idlerite Tyrepower 1st by Tim Cowling at 315cm, the Griffins Leading Edge 4th by Chris Downes at 320cm, the Parkes Ready Mixed Concrete 9th by Aaron Gaffey at 87cm, the Max Keith Building 11th by Mark Kelly at 235cm and the Parkes Security Storage 17th by David Chambers at 197cm. The money hole was won by David Chambers at 197cm. Ball winners were – Scott Mackenzie and Kieren Deland 48, Ross Kirvesniemi and Tim Cowling, John Green and Mark Kelly 46, John Dwyer and Rob Cheney. This coming Saturday there is an 18 Hole 2 person Devils format sponsored by Zac Kelly Golf. 6 holes Ambrose, 6 holes foursomes, 6 holes 4 BBB. Stait streets the field to win twin towns comp VETS GOLF There was no catching local larrikin Dale Stait who streeted the field to win last week's twin-towns veterans golf competition played at Parkes. In a somewhat disappointing field of 29 - 17 from Parkes and 12 from Forbes - Dale's impressive 42 points was three ahead of Parkes vets captain Rob Lea on 39, while Forbes president Peter Barnes filled the minor placings one back on 38 points. Parkes gained a rare win in the twin-towns shield by 224 points to Forbes' 209. The windy conditions proved testing at times which was evident in the nearest-to-pins with no players hitting the green in one on the par three fourth hole, while it was a little easier on the 11th with the two Peters - Barnes and Boschman from Parkes - winning A and B grade respectively. Parkes' Barry Whittaker was the encouragement award winner following a three-way count-back with the Forbes pair of Ted Morgan and Ken Sanderson. It was a very happy Ted who on finishing his round was sure he was set for his first "Bradman" award. The ball sweep went to 33 points with winners as follows: 38 - Peter Barnes (F); 37 - John Dwyer and Peter Bristol (F); 36 - Peter Boschman (P) and Don McKeowen (F); 35 - Niel Duncan and Barry Shine (F); 33 - Lindsay Elliott and John Ivey (P) and Warwick Judge (F). Forbes plays host this week - nominations from 8.45am for a 9.30am shot-gun start. The Tuesday 12 hole competition has a new ‘member’ in Robert Scott who tasted the joy of a morning walk then coffee talking problems of the world. With 11 starters it came to a three-way count-back to find winner and that is Warwick Judge from Andrew Norton-Knight and Jeff Moon all scoring 26 points. Not far behind were Neal Herbert and Barry Shine on 22 with the rest of the field within a point or two. After two rounds for the October Top Dog award leader in Andrew Nort0n-Knight on 55 points from Jeff Moon 54, Warwick Judge 51 and Barry Shine 50 the closest. Tuesday competition golf and a friendly hit over 12 holes for everyone, ball toss at 9am for playing partners.
