NSW Police thank Father Barry Dwyer from Parkes after 40 years as their chaplain

During an informal ceremony at the Parkes Police Station, Central West Police District commander Superintendent Brendan Gorman, who's based in Orange, and NSW Senior Police Chaplain Reverend Ian Schoonwater presented Father Dwyer with a plaque bearing the NSW Police logo and the dates of when he began as the service's chaplain to his last day in September.

Father Dwyer announced his retirement and officiated his final service as police chaplain on National Police Remembrance Day on September 29 in the Holy Family Catholic Church.

"After 40 years providing chaplaincy services for the NSW Police Force, Father Barry Dwyer has retired from this service," Central West Police District said.

"He has been there for police in good times and bad, providing a strong, personal and considerate safety net for police."

Being part of the NSW Police Force has been a major highlight of Father Dwyer's career.

Father Dwyer also celebrated 50 years as a Catholic priest in August, his golden jubilee taking place on August 25.

Up to 110 people, including a number of his family members, attended the dinner in his honour, with Michael Greenwood as MC.

He said it was an enjoyable night.
