The Parkes Uniting Church Hall becomes a hive of activity as several volunteers bundle dozens of gifts together to bring Christmas spirit, cheer and love to families in need.

In 2019, gift packs were given to 256 children from 106 families.

This year, organisers said that need remains.

The Salvation Army, Anglicare, St Vincent's De Paul, the Evening View Club and Parkes Uniting Church have joined together to continue the tradition.

"Donations for infants, children, and young people aged up to 15 year old are very welcome," volunteer Bill Shallvey said.

"In the past, there has been an outpouring of generosity for younger children, so gift cards may be an appropriate way to meet the interests of older children."

With the departure of the Parkes Target store, occurring September 5 - that every year had a Christmas Giving Tree in partnership with UnitingCare Australia - Parkes Shire residents may be looking elsewhere to donate Christmas gifts to children and families.

For those who normally give to the Target Giving Tree can still donate gifts by taking them to Vinnies in Welcome Street and Georgie's Boutique in Clarinda Street, where they will be gratefully accepted.

There are also other Christmas gift giving causes underway in town.
