And those involved are calling anyone across the shire to get in contact if they wish to join or have inquiries.
A group of residents came together last month to consider forming a Parkes Shire Ratepayers and Residents Association.
The meeting was held at the Parkes Services Club on March 17.
Convener of the meeting, John Coulston, spoke on the reasons why consideration should be given to forming such an association in the shire.
He also said there were others unable to attend on the night, who pledged their support.
Another interested resident, Stephen Mitchell, spoke at the meeting regarding the objectives of the proposed association, which he said "in essence concern community relationships with local government".
Among the aims he covered included encouraging community awareness and involvement; and the development of a proactive, representative and responsive community network committed to responding to matters of community concern.
Mr Coulston and Mr Mitchell also wanted the association to focus on the performance of local government.
"That due process, openness and transparency are observed in all activities, decisions and actions; that the best interests of ratepayers and residents is at the forefront of all decisions by council and staff," they said.
"And that accountability of council and staff is the norm and that services are delivered in the most efficient and cost effective manner."
Attendees agreed the association be formed and incorporated.
Mr Coulston said any Parkes Shire ratepayers and residents with inquiries or wishing to join the new association may contact him on 0458 591 290 or Mr Mitchell on 0422 552 381.
