At a time when community events have been cancelled and many businesses' doors have been forced to close because of the coronavirus pandemic, Burger Hub has made the commitment to support the local community by employing an apprentice chef.
Parkes' restaurants, cafés and pubs have been proactive and taken advantage of the opportunity to modify their menus and offer take away where possible since Australia-wide government restrictions closed their doors or ceased dining-in on March 24.
But the measures have resulted in greater business for restaurant owner, Jason McGuire of Burger Hub.
Jason has seen a significant increase in the number of takeaway and delivery orders which has created enough business to host and train an apprentice chef through Skillset, a local employment and skills development organisation.
"We believe that investing in training of our youth now will improve our business when these trying times are over," Jason said.
"We have to always be looking forward for future growth."
Tyler Nute was the lucky candidate to secure the apprenticeship at Burger Hub.
She finished her Higher School Certificate in 2018 with an ATAR of 91.9, providing her with many career opportunities.
However, it was her passion to work in the hospitality industry that saw her pursue a career as a chef.
"With this apprenticeship comes an opportunity to not only gain a qualification in my chosen field but to expand my skills and knowledge of the hospitality industry so I may pursue my culinary goals," Tyler said on her first day.
Skillset Chief Executive Officer Craig Randazzo is proud to be partnering with local businesses like Burger Hub to encourage investment into employment and skills, keeping regional economies strong.
"We really want to encourage the community to shop locally and we're calling on local businesses to support employment where they are able," he said.
"It's important that we support our economy locally, to ensure that our community can come out of this stronger."
