And it's all to coincide with the Paint Australia REaD Book Relay (Perth to the Pacific) that's currently in motion and involves Parkes' own Paint the Town REaD founder Rhonda Brain OAM.
After the Paint Australia REaD Book Relay began on March 20, the Paint Parkes REaD committee has decided to change the local event's format and date to May 10, when the Aussie book relay reaches the Parkes Shire.
The relay is travelling through Western Australia, South Australia, Victoria, the ACT and NSW, finishing on the shores of the Pacific in Wollongong at a Simultaneous Storytime event on May 22.
"Given that Parkes was the birth place of the Birth-to-Kinder initiative more than 20 years ago, we felt that moving our REaDing Day to match the arrival of the relay in Parkes would be appropriate," Mel Evans said, on behalf of the Paint Parkes REaD committee.
"This year's event will be on a smaller scale than in previous years and will be held solely in Cooke Park.
"[There will be] no activities along the main street."
The day will begin at 9.30am, with entertainment and the relay arrival, finishing around 10.30am-11am.
"We invite all K-2 students to attend and buses will be arranged by the Paint Parkes REaD committee for those schools requiring them," Mel said.
"We ask that students show their support on the day by adding some red to their uniforms where possible.
"It's only five weeks to go 'til the Red Reading Rover hits town en route from Perth to Pacific, celebrating literacy and spREADing the important message of the vital need to read, sing, talk, rhyme and draw with children every day from birth.
"So let's have fun as we celebrate literacy, let's Paint the Town REaD."
