The Parkes Agility Group trains twice a week at the showground with dogs and handlers of all levels of experience participating.
Dog agility is a dog sport in which a handler directs a dog through an obstacle course in a race for both time and accuracy.
Dogs run off-leash with no food or toys as incentives, and the handler cannot touch either the dogs or the obstacles. Consequently, the handler's controls are limited to voice, movement, and various body signals, requiring exceptional training of the animal and coordination of the handler.
Members of the Parkes Agility Group travel around NSW and sometimes interstate competing in various agility trials, so they are thrilled to be able to host their first regional trial.
"We have been very busy preparing the grounds for our first trial and are thrilled to be welcoming competitors to Parkes," Parkes trial manager Gaye Lees said.
The trial will be conducted over two days with dogs entering jumping events and agility events in the levels of Novice, Excellent and Masters.
"The competition starts at 9am on Saturday and 8.30am on Sunday," Gaye said.
"There will be a full canteen operating on both days so I encourage anyone in town on the weekend to pop up and have a look at the talented dogs and handlers on display and enjoy something from our great canteen."
The trial will attract competitors from all over NSW for the weekend with many of our local dogs and handlers also entered.
