One of Elsie Mahon's greatest achievements has been her art - so what better way to celebrate her 80th birthday then to host a retrospective display of her artwork over the past 40 years.
"A friend put this idea in my head, this is what I should do for my 80th birthday because I've been doing art for so long, he said I think it's time we should call it all back and see how many different things you've done over the last 40 years at least," Elsie said.
Elsie has created many beautiful pieces in many different mediums, including, china painting, watercolours, acrylics, embroidery, glass and tile mosaic, sculptures, pottery, welding, garden art, collages, recycled art, led light, glass works and mixed media - an incredible range.
"I can't believe someone can switch from a thread that fine to barbed wire and steel", is one of the comments she's received on that.
Elsie is very passionate about recycled art having only missed one year entering into the Waste to Art competition since it started in Parkes and winning several awards at both local and regional levels for her Waste to Art projects.
"I always do a Waste to Art project every year," Elsie said.
Elsie is also passionate about teaching art. Elsie started teaching china painting at TAFE for five years then moving into her own studio to continue teaching.
"The classes were probably the best thing, I just enjoyed having the people."
Elsie hopes to have all mediums she has worked with on display on Saturday, March 23 in the Coventry Room of the Parkes Shire Library.
Anyone who might have brought Elsie's work over the years and are willing to donate them to be on display for the day please contact Elsie on 68621079 to arrange pick up or drop off arrangements. Elsie will return all artworks after the display.
Past students of Elsie's are highly encouraged to come to the display on March 23 from 10AM to 4PM and catch up and say happy birthday. Elsie looks forward to reconnecting with students, the arts community and connect with some of the works she hasn't seen in 40 years.
