Central West Police District Chief Inspector David Cooper, Officer in charge of Parkes Police said there has been a concerning increase in what Police describe as hoodlum behaviours from some motorists.
“Screeching tyres, cars racing and burnouts have no place in Parkes,” Chief Inspector Cooper said.
“Not only are these activities illegal they are extremely dangerous.”
Chief Inspector Cooper highlighted a recent example in Brolgan Road.
“It is clear the vehicle was attempting to do a burnout and lost control,” he said.
“They have hit the gutter so hard they have damaged it, then mounted the gutter and crossed the footpath. The area is adjacent to an aged care facility and the footpath is well used by pedestrians, cyclists and elderly people on gophers.”
Chief Inspector Cooper is calling on the community for their help.
“If anyone sees these types of lunatic driving behaviours - call the Police; if you witness it and can give us some details we will act on it,” he said.
“If you have mobile phone footage or dash-cam footage please tell us. All drivers, particularly our younger drivers need to understand that having a driver’s licence is a privilege and not a right.
“If you want to drive such that you put yourself and others in danger we will take swift action and that could include losing your licence and your car. Police will take whatever legal actions are available to them including infringement notices but these matters may also be put before the Court.”
