Are you a young person aged 16 - 18? And want to expand your skills, meet new people, give back to the community and gain qualifications for your resume, then you need to come join for our youth program Blue Star.
Blue Star is a youth development and leadership program created by PCYC to assist ‘creating young leaders for tomorrow’ within in local communities. The program is aimed at young people between the ages of 16 – 18, and gives practical, real life skills that young people can apply to work & family, helping them on their way to becoming positive community leaders. Our program is broken into two levels, Blue Star Citizenship and Blue Star Leadership.
Blue Star Citizenship is the first step in the young person’s leadership journey with PCYC. Participants are required to attend two camps and complete 20 hours of volunteering at the participants local PCYC. We aim for volunteering within the club to be a fun and positive experience, exposing them to what we do and how they can contribute to their local communities.
Citizenship camps are challenging but fun, and focus on team building, individual character building, citizenship values and an introduction into what PCYC is, what we do and what can be achieved. At the completion of a Citizenship program, the young person will have gained their First Aid Certificate and will have completed two modules of the Certificate one in Active Volunteering. On successful completion of the Citizenship program, participants will then be invited to return to complete the Blue Star Leadership level the following year.
Blue Star Leadership participants are required to attend three consecutive camps and complete a minimum of 30 hours of volunteering between the camps at their local PCYC. Upon completion of the leadership course you will receive your Bronze Duke of Edinburgh award and will be invited back the following year as a mentor for future leaders.
