Ava is the first child for Cassidy Martyn and Blake Godwin and is Mavis’ first great great granddaughter, making her the fifth generation female in the family.
“I was pretty sick earlier in the year when Cassidy was pregnant,” Mavis said.
“I did wonder a couple of times if I’d see the baby.”
The 83-year-old has five grandchildren, four great grandchildren and now one very special great great granddaughter.
All five generations were born and live in Parkes.
Mavis and her husband Snow, who passed away 28 years ago, have two daughters, Deniece Bolt and Elaine Hornby (Greenpoint).
Deniece and her husband Derek have three children, Samantha (43), Naomi (40) and Benjamin (36), and four grandchildren.
Deniece said it’s very special having a great grandchild at 59 years of age.
“It’s very exciting, I can’t wait to babysit!” She said.
Ava is the first grandchild for Cassidy’s parents, Sam and Troy Martyn, and a niece for her brothers, Blake (24) and Fletcher (23).
Mavis has lived in Parkes all her life. She still lives in the Glover Street home she built with Snow in 1964.
“I will stay there for as long as I can,” she said.
After some ill-health earlier in the year and a knee operation last week, Mavis is hoping to start playing bowls and get back to her much loved new vogue dancing as soon as she can.
“I have days when I’m not well and I don’t push myself,” she said.
