The Northparkes Elvis Street Parade will be held this Saturday and as is always the case, will be one of the most highly anticipated events of the 2014 CountryLink Parkes Elvis Festival program.
The parade, which will commence at 10am, attracts massive crowds and significant media attention.
The 'Kissin Cousins' theme is sure to spark inspiration this year with more than 100 entries expected.
All floats, vehicles and walking entries must be registered to participate in the parade, with registration forms available online at www.parkeselvisfestival.com.au. Entries are still being taken.
To ensure that visitors enjoy the Street Parade, all entries in the parade MUST BE THEMED.
Entrants can select a general Elvis theme, or the 2014 festival theme 'Kissin Cousins'.
The theme should be the basis of your entry and the inspiration for your decorations and dressing up of any people attached to the float.
Some ideas for this year's festival theme might include country and western Elvis, rock-a-billy or Elvis in the Army.
Awards will be presented for:
* best dressed float
* best non-motorised entry
* best themed walking entry
* best dance group
* best themed motor vehicle and motorcycle.
Cars or floats that are blatant advertising and do not incorporate a Festival theme will be denied entry to the parade, so please ensure careful planning and thought goes in to your entry so that it is visually appealing and best promotes Parkes and the Festival to the thousands of spectators who line the street.
The main street barrier system will be in operation for the parade along both sides of Clarinda Street.
The barriers will be in place on Saturday from 6.00am until after the parade.
Any cars parked in Clarinda Street at this time will be blocked in, so please avoid parking in this area.
Clarinda Street will re-open after the conclusion of the parade.
For spectators attending the parade, arrive early to secure your best vantage point, consider the road closures that will be in place when planning your journey to the parade, try and leave the car at home as parking is at a premium.
Remember to wear sun protection and keep hydrated.
Please also respect that the barriers are in place for safety. Please keep behind the barriers and follow any instructions issued by official street parade marshalls, or announcements made over the CBD PA system.
A designated viewing area for wheelchair users and people with hearing and sight impairments has been reserved near the town clock building on the corner of Clarinda and Browne Streets.
