Ben Howard, Director Operations, said the proposed closure has been investigated and put to public comment.
Mr Howard said it has been an ongoing concern, not only from 2022, but from the early 2000's.
He said there were ongoing safety concerns, as noted in the report, with the increased patronage at both sporting precincts, the increase of Council infrastructure across both sporting precincts, as well as increases pedestrian and vehicle safety concerns.
Another concern Mr Howard highlighted was the cost of re-instating the road sitting at in excess of $450,000- after a report to Council in December 2022 about the short-term closure of the road.
The proposed closure was between the two carparks, Mr Howard said, with the exact configuration has yet to be determined and Council will aim to work the the associations who use the fields.
Council had gone through an extensive consultation process, Mr Howard said, with one submission in favour, one against, and one with a petition attached.
The petition was unable to be used as it was previously submitted when Council considered closing the road many years ago, with some signatories of the petition now deceased.
Councillor Ken Keith was in support of the recommendation, citing the safety concerns and it will have minimal impacts on the residents once they get used to the road being closed.
