At about 1.40am this morning, Monday January 24, two people in a white utility drove through the front entrance of a service station on Cawsell Street, Peak Hill.
After gaining entry, the pair allegedly stole cigarettes and an ATM, before they fled the location south on the Newell Highway towards Dubbo.
Officers attached to Central West Police District attended and established a crime scene, which was examined by specialist police.
An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is underway, and initial inquiries have revealed the ute was reported stolen from Dubbo yesterday, on January 23.
The service station was closed at the time and fortunately no injuries have been reported.
Following police enquiries, the car was recovered just north of Dubbo, in Brocklehurst, at around 7.30am this morning.
It will be sent for forensic examination.
As inquiries continue, police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or who has CCTV footage or dashcam vision, to contact Parkes Police on 6862 9999 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
