Tell us a bit about yourself and Outback Media
We're both from Parkes and studied at Charles Sturt University.
Post-study, we set off on separate adventures and got a taste of the city lifestyle and during this time we developed our professional portfolio and worked with many brands across a range of industries.
If you could describe us as a team, it would be pretty simple: Kayla is the strategy behind a job, Chloe visually interprets the strategy, creating magic for a business.
We're different sides of the same coin - for our work to be great, we rely on each other's different skill sets.
I'm a digital strategist who will build a brand image across the digital space, with a love of SEO, social media and web design.
Chloe is a graphic designer, illustrator, painter and web designer, her work is unique and always true to brand.
We had both moved back to the country from our agency jobs the same week in 2020, it almost felt like it was meant to happen.
During a coffee catch up at Bellas, Chloe and I decided we were tired of not pursuing our talents due to there being no jobs in the country for our skillset.
It was during that catch up, that we decided to change that narrative.
Tell us about the business' biggest achievement
Our biggest achievement has been the support we have received from our local community. Local businesses have come to us to assist with their digital development.
A great example of this is creating a website for Parkes Meals on Wheels.
The new website is one of limited Meals on Wheels websites that offer online ordering for clients.
This is a great step forward for community members and helps put parkes on the map of digital progression.
What are the main services you offer at Outback Media?
Think of us as an extension of a business.
We offer Branding, Design, Digital and Growth Marketing, SEO, Videography and Web Development.
Outback Media is a full service agency that assists in the development of a business.
What is one thing local companies can do to improve their online presence?
Websites!
We cannot stress enough the importance of having a website. It is advertising your business online, 24/7.
The way the world is moving, everything is going digital. Online presence will usually form a customer's first impression of your brand.
What are your future plans for Outback Media?
We have big plans for Outback Media, the main one being growth.
When Chloe and I both went off to university, we were put off by the limited options to work in the country using our degrees.
We would like to change that for country students who are wanting to work in our industry.
When you aren't working, what do you do in your spare time?
If Kayla is not working you will find her racing harness horses on weekends. When Chloe is not working you'll find her creating something with a paintbrush or spending time growing her mini hobby farm.
Do you have any thoughts on what could be done to support local businesses more?
Our business! For almost two years businesses have had to endure devastation from COVID-19.
The lockdown saw many shop fronts closing, and the only way to progress during this crisis was growing digitally.
It's one thing deciding to be digital, but knowing how to execute it properly is a whole new ballgame. That's where Outback Media comes in.
Who is someone you look up to in the local community?
We look up to all the business owners in town. Following your passion requires tough discipline and determination. There's nothing more inspiring than locals giving it a go.
What advice would you give to someone looking to start a business in Parkes?
Create a service that no one else has but needs! Be the first of your kind and provide people with a solution to a regular problem.
