This event is played off the ladies red tees for the men and the yellow social players tee for the ladies.
Whilst it would appear as a feeding frenzy for the big hitters, it never ends up that way.
While we've had a period of inclement weather, the course was looking and playing in great fashion.
Also, we have even been able to reduce the preferred lies back onto your own cut fairway, thus making it a trifle harder.
Not considered as one of the longest hitters in the club any longer, the accuracy and course management of Ian Phipps had him in front in the A-grade scratch with a well struck 74.
Ian managed a one stroke victory over Joe Van Opynen, with Wayne Parker a further stroke behind.
It was great to see 15 golfers manage to make it under 80 with the changed course setup.
In the A-grade nett, Alec Edwards survived a countback with Wayne Parker to take the prize, while Ian Phipps finished a stroke behind thus nearly taking out the double for the day.

In the B-grade stroke event, outgoing IGA owner Peter Boschman has begun his professional golf career with a great win, with an 83 beating Wayne Tucker on a countback.
There were six players on 84 chasing hard but just failing. One of these was Tony Evans who took out the nett event with a solid 69, beating Matthew Littlewood on a countback.
One stroke back was Peter Boschman, who took a half-stroke handicap haircut for the privilege.
In C-grade, Joshua Miles was the scratch winner with a handy 90 off the stick, beating home Bruce Symonds by a stroke.
In the nett event, Vince Kelly, playing like a man possessed, fired a 71 bringing back memories of his halcyon days on the course.
Vince defeated Joshua on a countback with Bruce Symonds 1 stroke back again.
There was good news for Paul Thomas on the day, he never had to shout for his group for failing to reach the ladies tee this week as he had the luxury of teeing off from them!
