With a passion for Fords it's a surprise to see Ron Tanswell from the Central West Car Club in a Holden, but when he told me the story behind it, it made perfect sense.

"It's a 1956 FE Holden sedan and it's exactly like what I had when I was 18, even down to the spats over the rear wheels," said Ron.
"Same colour, same red interior, only mine when I was 18 was an ex-taxi from Forbes and the spats were white."
Ron wasn't particularly looking for a Holden but when he saw this one for sale in a magazine in 2001 he recognised it as so much like his first one that he couldn't resist.
"My son and I both had two days off work so we hooked up a trailer and made the trip to Adelaide to have a look and buy it," he said.
"It had been in the one family since new, had been freshly painted in its original cream and was still registered and on the road."
Ron told me that the trip home with the FE on the trailer was an interesting one.
"We had offers more than once from people wanting to buy it," he laughed.
"One fella even offered us three separate times when he caught up to us at Rankin Springs, then West Wyalong and again halfway home.
"He wanted to swap his V8 Brougham for it but as much as my young fella was tempted, I couldn't let the FE go," chuckled Ron.

Ron's Holden runs it's original 138 cubic inch 6-cylinder grey motor with the traditional '3 on the tree' transmission.
It was already loaded with lots of accessories like the visors and the venetians and the chrome dress rims.
Ron did add the swan bonnet emblem which he'd kept all those years from his original car, making this one very nostalgic car indeed.
As much as he loves it, after a few years driving the FE, Ron parked it up to work on some other projects.
"It's been off the road for six years and I literally just re-registered it a week ago," he said.
At the age of 74 Ron has amassed a few vehicles now in his shed.
His favourite is still his Ford Customline, followed by the FE and then his little blue Austin.
But there's also a Harley Davidson that he rides so keep your eyes peeled for another story.
