Parkes driver Mitch Hutchings loves his gelding Terryrama, and the elation he showed when winning in Parkes on Friday night made that love clear for all to see.
Trained here in Parkes by Mitch's father Malcolm, and owned by his fiance Sara, the six-year-old has now won $114,416 in his 59 race career and the win comes after a tough couple of weeks for Mitch.
"I'm not feeling too bad, I had a bad car accident, which set me back a bit, but it has been good to get back on the field for the Cobras (Parkes' Western Premier League side), in the gig and back to work," he said on Friday night.
From gate 1, Hutchings drifted back immediately on Terryrama ($12) - although he said he wasn't concerned in the slightest.
"He is a funny horse, he generally has no gate speed but he was able to muster enough to hold his position," said Hutchings.
Favourite Cambo Blaster ($2.15) found the lead easily, and managed to get some cheap splits in the first two quarters (31.4, 30.2) before Hutchings made his move on the back straight; eventually hauling in the favourite by a head in 2:00.4.
Hutchings showed superb patience on the Western Terror x Nellirama gelding, and he was pumped to get the nail-biting win in front of his mates on the hill.
"Over the back straight, I found a gap and was able to get off the fence, and when he got cover I thought he was definitely going to win or come second.
"The boys asked if I tipped it and I said no, but a fair few of them still got on, so I'll have to get 'em to shout me a schooner after that," said Hutchings.

"He's been unlucky his past few runs, he is a real tough, high-speed horse and the worst thing I've had trouble with recently is getting him a run; lately he's been running every week but prior to that it was only every 3-4 weeks.
"He's a very flighty horse, especially on the track: he rears up and gets on his tippy toes but I wouldn't trade him for the world, put it that way.
"We have had success with him in the past, so to be able to get back on him and win is awesome," Hutchings said.
It turned into a great night out in the gig for Hutchings, with third placings aboard Hardliner ($16) and Watch and Weep ($11) - and his mates on the hill certainly owe him a beer given those each-way prices!
