The platform is an addition to the Packed Cones Gelato trading area.
At its July 20 meeting councillors were told parking changes would have to be implemented in Clarinda Street to accommodate the platform.
"The main problem is room, it has really grown and turned into a fabulous little business," Cr Ken McGrath said at the meeting.
"People pile in there and we need something there so people can sit and have a coffee out of the weather," he said.

The platform will occupy approximately three parking spaces north of Packed Cones Gelato.
"Use of the dining platform would ensure that customers were contained within the confines of the platform, placing patrons further from passing traffic and the nearby pedestrian crossing," councillors were told in a report.
