Parkes Council has approved the subdivision of land and subsequent erection of an Information and Education Facility (Aviation Museum) from the Historical Aircraft Restoration Society Inc (HARS).

The proposed aviation museum, which will be 105 metres x 50 metres with a peak height of 14 metres, will be used as a storage and exhibition space for historical aircraft, as a workshop for society members and to facilitate open days.

The proposal also includes a small café space, demountable accommodation building for volunteers, an associated taxiway, landscaping, carparking, loading and manoeuvring areas.
"We are happy to support this application and it will be a fabulous benefit to the community," Council's director planning and environment Brendan Hayes said.
Supporting the development Cr Alan Ward said: "I think it is tremendous HARS have gone to this next step, the facility in the Illawarra is fantastic and if we can have even half of that it will be fantastic. Watch this space!
"The massive investment works well for everyone," he said.
Cr Pat Smith said the development was "potentially another tourist attraction to Parkes, that one little bit more we can offer than other areas in the region."
As the land for the proposal is located on land currently owned by Parkes Shire Council, which is also the consent authority for the application the development was presented to council with no delegation of authority exercised.
Council received no submissions against the proposal.
