The Parkes Shire Housing Strategy sets a 20 year vision for housing in the Parkes Shire, in line with the NSW Government's Local Housing Strategy Guideline and the Parkes Local Strategic Planning Statement (LSPS) 2041.
Councillors at their meeting resolved to put the strategy, six months in the making, on exhibition for public comment for 28 days. It will then come back to the council.
"Council extends their thanks to the community for their time and effort in providing this valuable feedback which has helped shape the Draft Parkes Shire Housing Strategy," Mayor of Parkes Shire Cr Ken Keith OAM said.
"We are now pleased to exhibit the Draft Parkes Shire Housing Strategy 2021 to the community.
"Any person who may be interested in making a submission should keep in mind that the Issues Paper should be referenced to understand the approach and rationale for the priorities outlined in the Draft Strategy."
The strategy responds to the evidence base and key trends shaping future housing demand and supply in the Parkes Shire.

As of May, the rental vacancy rate for the Central West was 0.5 per cent, according to the Real Estate Institute of NSW.
Demand is outstripping supply all across the region - and particularly in Parkes.
The population in Parkes is predicted to grow by up to 19 per cent over the next two decades which could lead to a "significant housing shortage", according to the Parkes Shire Council Draft Housing Strategy.
The incoming Special Activation Precinct for Parkes is expected to generate up to 3000 new jobs.
To prepare, the council has proposed to expand the town by about 100 hectares on its eastern side and hopes to secure another $27 million for water infrastructure.
The Draft Parkes Shire Housing Strategy (PSHS) has been developed over the past six months and identifies the council's future vision for housing in the Parkes Shire, setting out framework plans and actions to achieve this vision, and the means to monitor and report on the rollout and uptake of residential land across the Shire.
The Parkes Shire Housing Issues Paper and Housing Preference Surveys undertaken in March 2021 provided important insights into the local conditions and future housing challenges.
A key finding of these preliminary investigations is that all settlements in the Parkes Shire have adequate land capacity to support additional freestanding housing in a low growth scenario, consistent with demand over the life of the Parkes strategy.
