But 60 years of service to the Parkes community through the Quota and Que clubs is an absolutely phenomenal effort.
Val Worthington was recently acknowledged by the Parkes Que Club (previously the Quota club) for her 60 years of service, and there is no one who has done more for the wonderful club that does so much for our community.
As a single teacher who taught in a lot of different places in her early days, Val found it very hard to meet people apart from other teachers, and Quota enabled her to meet and make friends with many other people in the community,
So much so she went from being President of the Parkes chapter to taking the position of District Governor.
Enthusiastically involved in every aspect of the club; Pam's advice is always respected and listened to, and she has often been asked to introduce or thank speakers, and, most importantly, she has been our club's chief birthday cake cutter for many years.

In earlier times Val was involved with Parkes Floral Art Society which held a wonderful display of flower arrangements every year, and like most members, she did a lot of service work outside the club, delivering Meals On Wheels for 25 years.
Since her retirement, Val has done many, many things that she had always wanted to do such as different cooking courses at TAFE, woodworking and embroidery among others. Val is an excellent bridge player and has devoted a lot of time to promoting and teaching the game and persuading many people to join the bridge club - whose present success is in great measure thanks to Val.
Although no longer able to leap tall buildings at a single bound, her mind is still as sharp as a tack, and she remains a very active Que member: setting us a wonderful example by introducing our first new member since COVID-19 restricted our activities, Astrid Steventon.
Will we ever have another Que member serve for 60 years?
Probably not. But we are also proud to have Margaret Byrne - who has also been a marvellous member for 47 years and are delighted to thank them both for their great service, and these great seniors make us all aware that we should never judge anyone by how old they are, but rather by whether they are receptive to new ideas and the contributions they make.
