Veterans Golf
Parkes' Graham Cooke made a welcome return to the winner's list when he compiled a well put together 28 points to win last week veterans golf event at Forbes.
Cooke had three shots to spare over another Parkes golfer, Tom Delmico, who compiled 25 points for the 12 holes.
Twenty-three players faced the starter with Parkes winning the Mick Miller shield 143 points to 139.
Forbes players Niel Duncan and Rod Besgrove won the A and B grade nearest the pins on the ninth hole, while Parkes' Roy Bell and Graham Cooke were the winners on the 18th hole.
The ball sweep went to 23 points and the winners were: 24 points - PeterScholfield (F); 23 - Peter Bristol and Nim Dziuba (P); Stephen Uphill, Rod Besgrove, Kim Herbert, Jeff Haley and Frank Hanns (F).
This week Parkes hosts the 18-hole Lachlan Valley event. Hit-off is 10am.
Good Attendance For Saturday Golf
A good roll up of 93 golfers participated in the Wild Plastering Contractors two Person Aggregate Stableford on Saturday and our thanks go to Simon Wild for his continued sponsorship of the Parkes Golf Club.
Scoring in the team event was high and the finish required a countback with the more fancied pairing of Marty Woods and Cameron Standen, who had a 73 - the same score as Aaron Drabsch and Matthew Littlewood.
Marty and Cameron won on the day but it is good to see Aaron and Matthew pressing for the major prizes.
These teams just finished in front of the favoured pairing of Wayne Powter and Robert Hey back on 71 points.
This event requires both golfers to be contributing to the aggregate score, so is a challenging format.
In the individual stakes, Nym Dziuba continues to impress as he lowers his handicap.
Nym had an impressive 41 points and a 77 off the stick, but had to beat Matthew Littlewood on a countback to take out the prize.
Both players played well below their handicap on the day which will help their golfing development.
Also notable was Marty Woods' 2 over round and Robert Hey honing up for pennants with a 1 over round.
Whilst play was off the white tees, there was some wind on the day so these scores were very creditable.
Another notable mention on the day was Kaye Jones picking up the Ladies trophy, a good comeback from her broken ankle.

These are much sought after trophies in the golfing calendar, so don't miss it!
Dubbo harness racing
Harness racing returned to the Central West on Sunday evening, with Dubbo hosting a regular night meeting, highlighted by the running of the Kyle Barnes Memorial.
Parkes trainer David Harris took out the Grapevine Cafe Pace with Andrew Swagger in an upset, winning from the gun draw at $13. The six-year-old Artistic Fella x My Sign gelding has only been with the Harris stable for three starts after spending the majority of his 21 race career in Victoria, and after going down at $61 and $34 in his first starts this win came as a happy surprise.
With Robert Harris in the gig, Andrew Swagger was only fairly away from 1 on the front row, but Harris patiently bided his time behind the leader, the Forbes trained Rocknroll Ranger, and pulled out from one back in the nick of time, claiming Rocknroll Ranger in the shadows of the post to record his first victory since December 14, 2020.
The gelding was hard to catch throughout his racing in Victoria, so Harris will be hoping he has found the magic elixir to turn Andrew Swagger into a consistent, and winning, pacer.
The first three races were one for the roughie punters - with an average winning price of $27!
