The Parkes and Forbes veterans finished their 2019 year with an 18-hole competition and Christmas lunch at Forbes last Thursday.

Forty-three golfers took part in the four-ball aggregate competition (draw for partners) with Parkes' Graeme Cooke and Michael Lynch taking the honours with a very hot 82 points. Cooke was in sizzling form to amass the best score of the day (45 points), while Lynch carded 37.
Only one point behind were Tom Delmenico (Parkes) and Frank Hanns (Forbes) who scored 43 and 38 points respectively. Forbes'Alf Davies had the best scratch score of the day with a two over par 74. Yearly awards were also presented with Barry Parker (F) winning the aggregate with 657 points, one clear of team mate Geoff Drane (656).
Parkes players took the top two spots in the points score with Rod Luyt taking the honours with 108 points to Graeme Cooke's 104. John Whatmore (Forbes) won the attendance award.
After 12 months of competition the Mick Miller shield points could not be separated with both Parkes and Forbes finishing on 4828 points. However, with Forbes being the defending champions they retained the shield.
The veterans competition will resume on January 2 with Forbes hosting a 12-hole competition. Nominations from 9.30am for a 10am shot gun start. A merry Christmas and a happy New Year to all golfers and readers.

Racing from Colin Hodges.At the first start in a race three year old gelding Patrick May staged a spirited fight back to win the 1200 metres QUBE Logistics Maiden Plate on Friday at the Warren twilight meeting.
Trained at Gilgandra by Leo Harland, Patrick May ( $8 ) after being in front turning for home was headed by the $1.85 favourite Sue's Girlfriend ( Jake Pracey-Holmes ) close to the finish however under strong riding from Andrew Banks rallied to win by a nose with Arkam Asylum ( Wendy Peel, $6 ) over two lengths away third.
Andrew Banks completed a double when Gaze Beyond in the 1400 metres Nutrien Ag Solutions Benchmark 58 Handicap continued the recent run of success for Bathurst trainer Roy.L.McCabe.Hokkaido ( Tiffany Jeffries, $6 ) had dashed clear in the straight before Gaze Beyond ( $5.50 ) came with a strong finish to score by three quarters of a length with a long neck to third placed Turramurra ( Ken Dunbar, $17 ).
Nyngan trainer Rodney Robb also had two winners at Warren, starting with Ready Set Go in the 1000 metres Adors Party Hire Maiden Handicap.Owned by the trainers son Brett "Snow" Robb and his partner Katie Atherton, Ready Set Go ( Michael Heagney, $5.50 ) overcame a wide barrier to swoop on the leaders and score convincingly from Exquisite Dreamer ( Angela Cooper, $12 ) and Delago Express.$9.50 ).
Owned by Wayne Brown, Bee Double Bee ( Ken Dunbar,$2.70 favourite ) became the second leg of the Rodney Robb double when sprinting through a gap to overhaul Drummed Out ( Wendy Peel, $7 ) and Ligny ( Tiffany Jeffries, $18 ) in the 1000 metres MCC Hydraulics Benchmark 58 Handicap.
Reward Seeker made an impressive return to racing when winning the Adama Class 1 Handicap ( 1600 metres ) for Wellington trainer Michael Mulholland.
With Quayde Krogh in the saddle, Reward Seeker (/$4.80 ) parked behind the leaders and finished well to account for Lady Riz ( Jake Pracey-Holmes, $8 ) and Mount Taishan ( Billy Cray, $4.80 ).
