Start time was delayed on both Saturday and Sunday to allow the frost to clear off the greens. However, it was great to see both greens full to capacity when play did get underway.
Our Club was well represented and it was great to welcome Bowlers from other clubs in our region from Cowra, Manildra, Condobolin, Grenfell, Forbes and Parkes Railway Club as well as visitors from Hazelbrook, Glenbrook, Yass and Teralba.
Each team played three games on Saturday and two games on Sunday and a different format was used this year to determining the place-getters.
Instead of using number of games won and aggregate shot margins to determine the winners, ten points were awarded for each game won and one point was awarded for each end won. After two great days of Bowls the prize winners were.
Winners overall were:
- First place - Andrew Armstrong and Barry Bradke from Grenfell - 89 points
- Second Place - Steve Ryan and Bruce Orr - Parkes Bowling and Sports Club - 83 points
- Third Place - Gary McPhee and Liz Byrne - Parkes Bowling and Sports Club - 80 points
- Fourth Place- The father and son team of Alan and Wayne Messiter - Alan from Cowra and Wayne from
- Teralba - 77 points
- Fifth Place- Dave Johnson and Brian Townsend - Parkes Bowling and Sports Club - 76 points
In addition, six teams who were not in the place-getters were draw "from the hat" and received a prize of $100.
In the absence of Tom Casey (who is enjoying a well-earned holiday in Canada) Mike Went presented the prizes and kindly volunteered Casey Surveying to sponsor the tournament next year - but wait for official confirmation before putting in your nominations.
Our Men's Bowls Club President thanked all those involved for their part in making it a great weekend and I can't name them all individually. However, the Club appreciates the support and hard work of all involved.
The green keepers, the Ladies and Gentlemen who prepared lunches and morning teas on both days, the bar staff who made sure no went dry and in particular Gary McPhee for all his work in organising the Tournament and Graham Barby and his offsider, Ray Jones, for keeping the score board in order.
We are also grateful to our Major Sponson, Casey Surveying and Design, our Co-sponsor Parkes Courier Services and D'Aquinos Liquor Supplies who donated some wine for raffle prizes.
Most importantly we appreciate the support of all the Bowlers who contributed to a most enjoyable weekend and (subject to confirmation) we look forward to seeing you next year.
