The man was collecting cans in Woolworths car park when he was approached by the male and punched in the face. The victim made his way down Jansen Lane to Big W where he collapsed in the store.
He was taken to Parkes Hospital by ambulance.
Investigations are continuing.

A silver Toyota Yaris was stolen from the rear of a Clarinda Street business sometime between 4.30pm on Thursday, April 18 and 8.30pm on Tuesday, April 23.
The vehicle was located at 4am on Wedneday, April 24, completely destroyed behind Essential Energy on Brolgan Road.

A 50-year-old Parkes man has been charged with a number of offences after a police pursuit at 9.50pm on Friday.
The man led police through residential streets of Parkes at speeds of up to 120km before a flat tyre forced him to stop on Ernie Hodges Road.
He was arrested and charged with police pursuit, drive while licence cancelled and drive unregistered vehicle.
The man was also found to have an outstanding warrant.
He was refused bail and appeared before Parkes Local Court on Saturday where he was also refused bail to appear again in Parkes Local Court on Monday.
