Parkes Shire Food Service Inc has been nominated for the Prime Super Employer Excellence in Aged Care Award in the 2018 NSW/ACT Regional Achievement and Community Awards.
Winners will be announced at an Awards Gala Presentation Dinner in Orange tonight.
The Prime Super Employer Excellence in Aged Care Award recognises businesses, organisations and not-for-profits who have a strong focus on staff engagement, safety and well-being, training and providing staff with higher education learning opportunities and development.
The award acknowledges aged care facilities, organisations, not-for-profits and businesses making a positive difference in the industry in NSW and the ACT.
Also known as Parkes Meals on Wheels, the not-for-profit organisation is 55 years young and has 230 volunteers who have assisted delivering more than 21,000 meals around the shire yearly.
Meals on Wheels is also in partnership with Coles for the Second Bite program, which is a program where they pick up bread, fruit and vegetables from the supermarket and make it available to the public for free.
“This program is increasingly important as the drought worsens and more people are in need of a helping hand,” Service Manager Gillian Kinsela said.
Parkes Shire Food Service Inc also won the Excellence in Social Enterprise award at the 2017 and 2018 Parkes Business Awards and was a finalist in the Regional Business Chamber of Commerce award for Excellence in Social Enterprise.
