Movies will light up the giant screen of Dubbo’s drive-in in a new offering as the outdoor cinema experience captures the imagination of the region.

The projector will switch on for sessions one weekend a month at the Dubbo Westview Drive-In.
The new chapter will roll from next month when the icon opens the gates from November 16-18.
The decision comes on the back of a return of the drive-in for one-off events in April 2017 and last weekend.
Classic movies screened on Friday, Saturday and Sunday night at the Westview in partnership with the DREAM Festival.
Organisers of the drive-in revival said the event had met with ticket-sale success, with two sessions selling out.
A total of 619 cars had taken their place at the Mitchell Highway site, bringing an estimated 2544 patrons from all across NSW, a spokesperson said.
“We had an event over the weekend and realised obviously the demand that is in place for this drive-in,” the spokesperson said.
“So we’ve decided to open it up once per month.”
The Westview Drive-In’s return comes after it had been out of operation for more than three decades.
Organisers said they were pleased to deliver the experience to new generations.
“Everyone’s driven past it and seen the big screen there and wondered when it would open or if it would ever open,” the spokesperson said.
“So it’s pretty exciting to see this happen in my time.”
The move to monthly events is a significant step for the team behind the drive-in.
“Obviously it’s quite expensive to run a drive-in… we would like the community to understand that without their involvement, this won’t go ahead,” the spokesperson said.
“So we really need everyone to get behind it and support, and come along with their families or friends or loved ones, and really get involved.
“We’ve all been looking at that drive-in and wishing it would open and wondering if it ever will, and now it is, we need Dubbo and our surrounding areas to get involved and keep it open.”
