Hosted in ideal weather conditions, the evening saw a good roll up of boys and girls who were able to benefit by being involved in such activities as Catching, Throwing, Big Hitting and Bowling for Accuracy whilst having a speed gun measure their bowling speed.
All this took place to the backdrop of the Thunder Van and a delightful sausage sizzle.
Parkes Junior Cricket was delighted to note the attendance of a number of Senior Parkes Cricketers such as Clinton Hawke, Graeme Bayliss, Myles Smith, Blake Smith, Shane Jones, Zac Bayliss, Cameron Rosser, Peter Yelland and Paul Dunford.
These players, a big majority being graduates of Parkes Junior Cricket ranks prior to going on to carve out very successful careers in Senior Cricket, gave freely of their time and advice to guide young players through the activities.
Parkes Junior Cricket’s main aim in conducting this event was to have people participate and enjoy the wonderful game of cricket.
It was very pleasing to note that a number of new players signed up to play cricket with PDJCA in the 2018/19 season.
To encourage participation PDJCA enabled participants to write their names on tickets every time they entered/completed an activity.
At the conclusion of the evening Mr Matt Ellis the Cricket NSW Development Manager based in Dubbo was on hand to draw out the winning tickets.
The major prize of a brand new Kookaburra Cricket Bat valued at $250 was won by Henry Rice.
The other lucky winners of the $50 Gift Vouchers for Parkes Sportspower were – Corbyn Cunningham, Matty Price, Bailey Price, Piper Rose, Matthew Skinner, Ryan Dunn, Liam Freeman, Aidan Rayner, Max McGregor, Crystalin Klese, Ethan Moran and Harrison Smede.
It is to be hoped all the participants will continue to enjoy being involved in junior cricket in Parkes as the 2018/19 season unfolds.
The first games are scheduled to begin on Saturday, October 20.
If any players are not yet registered they should contact Honorary Secretary Greg Morrissey (0428 963 605) so they can be placed in a team.
Already the Parkes U12 representative squad have been preparing for the new inter-town representative season following two very keen training sessions at the Woodward Oval Nets.
Coach Shane Jones is looking forward to a successful season.
It will be very important that both the Parkes U/14 and U/12 representative squads are in attendance at the nets on Saturday, October 13 from 9am – 11am so these two teams can be arranged for their first inter-town game scheduled for October 21.
