The awards, hosted by Engineers Australia, are the most highly regarded engineering honours in the country - recognising the invaluable contribution engineering makes to the economy, community and the environment.
Parkes Shire Council proudly shares the award with construction partners John Holland, Hunter H2O, and Maddocks.
Parkes Shire Mayor, Councillor Ken Keith OAM said Council works incredibly hard to deliver progress and value to the community.
“We are incredibly proud to have been recognised with this prestigious accolade,” he said.
“It is more important than ever to invest in smart, sustainable solutions to guarantee long-term water security.
“Through the Parkes Integrated Water Infrastructure Renewal Program, we have been able to deliver state-of-the-art treatment plants and strengthen our entire water network.”
The $100m capital works program includes the Lake Endeavour Dam Safety Upgrades, the Lachlan River Pump Station and Bore 8 refurbishments, as well as the major infrastructure construction that delivered Parkes a new Water Treatment Plant, new Sewage Treatment Plant and the Advanced Water Recycling Facility, and ancillary infrastructure augmentations.
The Parkes Integrated Water Infrastructure Renewal Program was among some of the State’s most prominent engineering projects nominated for an award, including the City of Sydney’s Green Square Library and Plaza development which forms part of the $13 billion Green Square vibrancy program, and the $154 million Wynyard Walk, a fully accessible pedestrian tunnel that connects one of Sydney’s busiest transport interchanges with the Barangaroo waterfront precinct.
“I would like to congratulate our staff and construction partners who have worked so hard to deliver these world class facilities to Parkes,” the Mayor said.
“I would also like to thank the Australian Government, and the New South Wales Government for their generous contributions to the projects.”
Having won an excellence award at the state level, the Parkes Integrated Water Infrastructure Renewal Program becomes a finalist in the National Australian Engineering Excellence Awards which will be announced at the Engineers Australia national conference in September.
