Central West Lachlan Landcare (CWLL) have a massive week ahead after the Easter celebrations are over.
We are pleased to be welcoming Dr Ash Martin for two Landholder workshops. Given our current environment and the forecast leading up to our normal sowing period, we are hoping that these workshops might be a chance for landholders to look at options for soil health to face varying climatic conditions.
The first Transition to Soil Health workshop will be held at Adavale Lane Hall on Thursday, 5 April. To get there from Parkes, you need to head out the Newell Highway towards Peak Hill, turn left onto Bogan Road and follow the Road approximately 27km to the Adavale Lane on the left, just past Northparkes Mine. The Hall is located just a little further along the road on the right-hand side.
Most people would be familiar with the Bedgerabong Hall, located in the Showground. This workshop will be held on Friday, 6 April. Getting there is pretty easy. Just head out the Bedgerabong Road and travel approximately 31km and the Grounds are located on the left-hand side.
We have people in both communities providing morning tea and lunch at both workshops, so we require an RSVP to make their job easier. You can either contact me on cwllpo@hotmail.com or via phone on 6862 4914, or just send me a text on 0418 611 053. Please feel free to leave messages over the long weekend. That would be greatly appreciated.
CWLL will be providing free soil testing for everyone who books prior to 5pm, Tuesday, 3 April. Directions for soil collection can be found on our website. Just follow the links. Once you have bagged your soil, you will need to keep it in the freezer between collection and delivery.
Dr Ash Martin, from Australian Microbe Labs will be presenting the Transition to Soil Health Workshops, supported by Agriwest Agronomist, Guy Webb.
Tristan Steventon from Stevtech will be providing a drone demonstration during lunch time. Since leaving the family farm, Tristan has spent almost two decades in the military. He is back home and energised to collaborate with farmers and agronomists to increase the precision and productivity of Australian farms. Having worked with the most high-tech Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and sensors available on the planet, he understands their true utility is in their ability to enhance timely and accurate decision making.
Together, these guys, myself and our Landcare volunteers have two fantastic days lined up for landholders. You just have to register and let us look after you for the day.
These days lead in to our Celebration Dinner in Forbes on Friday, 6 April at Forbes Town Hall. We are thrilled to have special guest, the Deputy Prime Minister The Hon Michael McCormack MP joining us, along with fantastic presenters, Dr Adrian Zammit (Landcare NSW CEO); Pip Job (DPI Young Farmer Business Program); Susan Madden (Chair Central West Local Land Services); Wendy Muffet (Grazing Down The Lachlan); Dr Ash Martin and Guy Webb (Soil C Quest).
The Dinner is an opportunity to bring attention to the positive things that are happening in the regenerative agriculture space and celebrate, tying in with our theme for this year: Healthy Landscapes; Healthy People; Healthy Communities.
I hope that you enjoy a break over the Easter long weekend. I will be enjoying the best that the Irish have to offer at Tullamore, enjoying the craic!
