An annual event held on the last Sunday in July, Anglican Women’s Sunday aims to celebrate all Anglican women and the good work they do on behalf of their parish, the community and the organisations they belong to.
This is the sixth year Brian has held the luncheon. He prepares everything himself and won’t allow any help from the women.
“This meal is my hospitality,” he said.
“The reason I do this is to say thank you to the women who have supplied hospitality for the parish for more than 60 years.
“It’s not only the meals they prepare, the barbecues they cook, it’s also the cakes, slices, soups, pickles and jams they make to sell to raise money for the church at their street stalls.”
Brian fed and entertained 24 women in the rectory at Trundle on Sunday, August 5.
The previous Sunday he held a luncheon for the Anglican women in Condobolin.
“I prepare and cook it all myself,” he said.
“Milton Blowes came along to help serve and clean up. Usually Cranley Gowing and Kevin Bonham also lend a hand, but they were both unable to make it this year.”
Brian said he doesn’t want the women to touch a thing.
“I want them to enjoy the day and not have to lift a finger,” he said.
He served nibbles, punch, wine and a three course meal including homemade tomato soup with croutons and sour cream for entree.
The main was a variety of vegetables including potato bake and stewed zucchini with tomatoes served with chicken, beef and salmon dishes.
Chocolate mudcake and cream for dessert topped off the delicious meal.
Brian told his guests how much he appreciates each of them for their ongoing efforts to support him in his ministry.
“I thank each and everyone of you,” he said.
“Without your support I wouldn’t have a church. I am very happy out here. And thank you Milton, for all your help today.”
