The girls, from Forbes and Parkes, went through their western campaign undefeated, beating Bathurst 4-0 in the final at Botanical Gardens in Forbes.
They battled teams from a region encompassing Dubbo, Orange, Lithgow and Mudgee for the right to represent Western at the Country Cup.
Competing on the side from Parkes were Grace Osborne, Emma Jones, Abby Greenaway, Kyah Turnball, Mel Reeves, Pascal Berry, Sharna Ross and Maisy Osborne.
They met the best of Riverina and Southern regions on the long weekend in Wagga and placed second after a tough campaign.
We were expecting the 16s to be harder and it was.
- Lachlan Tigers coach Wayne Osborne
Coach Wayne Osborne said the side was young in the competition, coming up from the under 14s after winning last year.
“We were expecting the 16s to be harder and it was,” he said.
The Tigers’ campaign started with a nil-all draw against Riverina, they then went down to Southern 1-0.
“That was a bit disappointing, but they were bigger, faster and stronger,” Osborne said.
“It was a different style of game, more physical, the girls copied really well.”
The Tigers met the Southern side again on the Sunday morning, June 11, again going down 1-0.
But they ended the weekend on a high, beating Riverina 2-0 for second place overall.
