But all has not been lost.
The local league tag team’s 2016 grand final dreams are still alive, with the side having one more shot at the premiership this Sunday.
And it’s against Parkes’ arch rivals, the Forbes Magpies. Spacecats coach Michael Dumesny described Parkes’ match with Dubbo as a “heavy game”.
And attributed one moment their opponents scored to the “freakish bounce of the ball”.
“The girls were a bit knocked around… They were disappointed which was pleasing to see because it shows it meant something to them,” Dumesny said.
“To just get beaten has made them a bit more hungry.”
Parkes has faced Forbes five times this season already.
And Dumesny said the fact they’ve won four games to one against Forbes has ignited confidence in the Spacecats.
“We’re confident we can book a spot in the grand final,” he said.
It’s Dumesny’s first season coaching league tag, a role he said he’s enjoying immensely.
“It’s a bit different, there’s 16 girls and they all have their own personality,” he laughed. Dumesny said the Spacecats wouldn’t have made it this far without the club’s support, including that of his tutors Dennis Moran, Alex Prout and Andrew Porter.
Four huge preliminary finals will be played at Jock Colley Field on Sunday. The main interest for home fans will be the league tag. First grade and Under 18s matches will be against Nyngan and Forbes. Reserves, Westside takes on Macquarie. Winners will meet undefeated Dubbo CYMS and Under 18s winner to play Wellington in the September 11 grand final.
