It had been a busy year for the Club, especially in October.
Members organised and hosted ‘Gardening from the Ground Up/Open Gardens’, which raised approximately $8,000 which was donated to Currajong Disabilities, Companions through Cancer, and Relay for Life.
Ahead of the lunch a brief meeting run by President Elsie Mahon, advised members that the 2015 committee had already started working on acquiring guest speakers for meetings, trips away, a BBQ, and importantly a “birthday party” to celebrate the Club’s 20th year.
Elsie reminded members that in January and February the club is in recess as it is too hot for our meetings.
Then members thoroughly enjoyed a two-course Christmas meal in the beautifully decorated Boulevard Room upstairs at the Services Club.
To add to the fun and festivities, Marjorie Styles had purchased and wrapped 20 ‘draw prizes’.
There was much checking of tickets as each of these prizes was drawn and 20 lucky members took home a memento of the occasion.
Additionally, a poinsettia was the lucky door prize which was won by a new member, Rhonda Dunn.
During the year, several members take along a flower to the meetings and the rest of the members vote for ‘the best flower’.
At the end of year a gift is given to the overall winner, ie, the member with the most ‘firsts’.
Noreen Symons who had been coordinating this part of our activities, presented that gift to winner Elsie Mahon.
Members of the Parkes Garden Club thank all those who have supported the club in any way throughout 2014 and hope everyone enjoyed a peaceful and happy Christmas.
