The Kokoda Youth Leadership Challenge, open to people aged between 17 and 22, is a once in a lifetime opportunity for young leaders to put their leadership skills to the test and conquer the arduous Kokoda Track.
As part of the fully-paid for trip, the group will be assisted by an experienced trek leader and several local guides who will ensure that the original wartime trail is followed for the 10 day trek, scheduled for September 20 to October 1 this year.
More than 600 Australian soldiers died along the Kokoda Track during the 1942 campaign, helping prevent the Japanese Army from launching a full scale assault on Australia.
The track is physically demanding, with participants expected to trek through mud and rain, across mountain ranges up to 7,000 feet above sea level while carrying a 15kg backpack.
ClubsNSW CEO Anthony Ball said there is still time for young leaders to apply for the Kokoda Youth Leadership Challenge and would highly encourage people to do it.
Now in its tenth year, the Kokoda Youth Leadership Challenge is a program founded by the RSL & Services Clubs Association to ensure that the spirit of Kokoda lives on.
Applications close Thursday, May 1. For more information or for an application form, please visit www.clubsnsw.com.au/kokoda2014 or email kokoda@clubsnsw.com.au.
