These Boots Were Made For Walking could well be one of many signature tunes for Reverend Brian Schmalkuche as he sets off on foot this Sunday from Bogan Gate for the 96 kilometre journey to Albert.

Joining him for the first leg to Trundle will be the Bishop of Bathurst Ian Palmer, who will first attend the Sunday church service at St Luke’s Bogan Gate and later the barbecue and fundraising activities at the Trundle Services Club.
It is all part of what Rev Brian has labelled the Walk for Christ, aimed at showing how very much the Spirit of God is alive and well in the bush.
“This walk is not about me but drawing attention to the christian work being accomplished week after week by people within these small, vibrant communities,” he said.
“The walk is on - rain, hail or shine, and everyone is welcome to join with me either part or all of the distance if they wish.
“Along the way prayers will be offered for all who walk with me. I will also pray for the properties and the people on them as I pass.
“During the lead up to Sunday’s walk, suggestion boxes were placed in various churches throughout the parish where parishioners could lodge specific prayer suggestions.
“There has been a terrific response,” he said.
Rev Brian said that if christians don’t support churches within their small communities then they will no longer be.
“This would also mean the loss of priests and pastors which would be enormously sad for the peoples of these wonderful communities.”
Rev Brian is also encouraging people to support Walk for Christ by offering sponsorship which can either be posted to him at PO Box 5 Trundle, or by pledging support on 0418 299 734.
“I feel blessed and totally amazed at the support given to this walk by so many – especially from the Bishop.
“My wife Judith will be my groupie, for the walk driving the specially decorated van which will also be our home along the way,” Rev Brian said.
“The first task will be to reach Trundle by 6pm for the fundraiser and finally to Albert for the 11.30am celebratory service at the All Saints Church.”
