Parkes woman, Patricia Bailey, became quite emotional when she received a special award at a ceremony at the Parkes Shire Administration Centre.

Pat has been award the Government of New South Wales ‘Community Service Award’ and local MP, Troy Grant came to Parkes especially to make the presentation.
He was joined by Parkes Mayor, Ken Keith in acknowleding Pat’s outstanding service, especially with the Parkes branch of Can Assist.
Members of the local branch, as well as family and friends were present for the occasion.
“She has worked tirelessly for more than two decades with Can Assist helping cancer patients and their families,” Mr Grant said. “She is one of the first people to reach out to those most in need.
“The Community Service Award recognises people who have substantially contributed to the improvement of the quality of life of members of their community,” Mr Grant said.
Pat said she made a pledge after the death of her husband to help people and their families suffering from cancer.
“I wanted to ensure others did not have to go through what our family had to endure,” she said.
