Parkes East enjoyed the sessions put together by Ms Wallace while Middleton students enjoyed their program called ‘a taste of tennis’.
Holy Family were very active and Mrs Clowry’s class thoroughly enjoyed a visit by Mrs Gardner’s Year 1-2 class from Parkes Public for an inter-school Hot Shots experience.
Parkes Public School has enjoyed all kinds of activities especially their highly competitive intra-school class challenge.
Mrs Shore’s Year 4 class challenged Mr Magill’s Year 4 students as they all accumulated class points over an hour of play.
It was Mr Magill’s class who won by the narrowest of margins and already Mrs Whitchurch’s Year 5 have put in a challenge for next week.
Every student in the four primary schools in Parkes who are part of the National Schools Partnership Program - and has registered online - will receive their colourful orange and pink or green and blue free t-shirts this week when they return to school.
MLC HOT SHOTS after school coaching programs will commence this Saturday.
There are a few places available on Wednesdays or Fridays after school or Saturday mornings.
They run for half an hour in groups of four over eight weeks.
Every child who registers for the first time receives a free racquet and hat.
MLC Hot Shots is Tennis Australia’s official development program for girls and boys aged four years to 12 years.
It uses modified equipment and customised court sizes to suit the ages and abilities of the players. They progress through Blue Launch Pad stage to Red, Orange and Green ball levels when they achieve certain competencies.
There is also Orange and Green ball junior competitions which the players can choose to participate in once they are at the appropriate standard.
If anyone is interested or would like further information please phone Helen Magill on 0407 253 888.
JUNIOR COMPETITIONS
It is the last chance for interested players to get their name in for junior comp which will commence next Tuesday, October 15.
There has been some great response from the Hot Shots Orange and Green ball players and they will no doubt enjoy their first competition experience.
Anyone who is in Orange or Green ball Hot Shots and would like to play comp or any other players who may have gone off to winter sports and are keen to get back into comp tennis this term, please phone Helen on 0407 253 888 as soon as possible to register their name.
There are half hour singles divisions which are graded according to standard.
There is also a singles and doubles division which players need a partner to play in.
In this division, one set of singles and one set of doubles is played which usually takes about an hour to complete.
HOLIDAY RESULTS
Parkes’ Jake Magill and former Parkes girl Emily Thomson played in two tournaments during the holidays.
The NSW Cup was the lead-in to the Spring Nationals and both these tournaments were played in Sydney.
Jake and Emily both had direct entry into the main draw of the NSW Cup on their current ranking points.
They both lost their first round matches and went into the consolation.
Jake lost his next match while Emily won hers on a walkover then lost.
Emily received a wildcard into the qualifying event for the Nationals while Jake was accepted on his ranking.
Unfortunately they both lost in their first attempt to qualify and had to go back into a consolation event.
They tried valiantly but lost the two matches they played.
It was a tough 10 days for Jake and Emily but hopefully they will continue to work hard and will qualify next year as they are in the same age divisions once again.
Emily is playing in an AMT event this weekend in Wagga along with younger sister Molly, while Jake is hoping to get some valuable match practice at an OJT tournament in Wollongong.
