In men’s A grade, Rovers Gold defeated Magpies 4-3 after being down 3-0 at half-time.
Rovers made a great comeback in the second half with Jeremy Huk, Aaron Huppatz and Kieren Deland leading the charge.
Goal scorers: Rovers – Aaron Huppatz 2, Steve Redfern 2; Magpies – Tim Somers, Kurt Lovett and Thomas Woods.
Best and Fairest: Rovers – Jeremy Huk and Steve Redfern; Magpies – Kurt Lovett.
In the second A grade match, Vets defeated Marist 5-4 in another thriller showing how close the competition is shaping to be this year.
Matt Searl was a stand-out for the Vets men, directing his side around the field.
Goal-scorers: Vets – Graeme Tanswell 2, Jason Thomson 2 and Trent Thomson; Marist – Taylor Dolbell 2 and Justin Ward 2.
The first A grade women’s match was a grand final replay between Rovers Cubs and Cellar Crows.
Cubs were able to reverse the result this time, defeating Cellar Crows 3-2 in an entertaining match.
Annie Hay was a stand-out in goals for Cellar Crows whilst Belinda Lewis and Mandy Westcott controlled the mid-field well for Cubs.
Goal-scorers: Cubs – Wendy Huppatz, Mandy Westcott and Jane Mattiske; Cellar Crows – Cassie Hill and Annette Orr.
In the second A grade match, Magpies defeated Middleton 3-0.
Magpies welcomed the return of Wendy Rix and Codie Wakefield to their ranks; both girls making an impact on the game.
Middleton were missing some key players for the match, but fought valiantly against Magpies.
Goal-scorers: Magpies – Nicole Knox, Cherie Johnstone and Janelle Thompson.
Best and Fairest: Magpies – Wendy Rix, Nicole Knox and Codie Wakefield; Middleton – Emily Dean and Tracie Noakes.
The B grade men’s competition also looks to be quite even with two very close results.
Magpies Black defeated Rovers Gorillas 2-1
Goal-scorers: Magpies – Mitchell Townsend 2; Rovers – Toby Nash.
Best and Fairest: Magpies – Dylan Wakefield, Rodney Coleman and Thomas Woods; Rovers – Carleton Magill, Jordan Clark and Daniel Gersbach.
Middleton and Magpies White played out a 0-0 draw.
Best and Fairest: Middleton – Corey Jones and John Welsh; Magpies – Harrison Byrnes, Geoff Rice, Cooper Byrnes and James McKenzie.
The B grade women’s competition has eight teams with many new-comers to the senior competition.
Middleton Eagles and Middleton Pink played out a close 2-2 draw with Holly Cooke having an outstanding game bagging six points.
Goal-scorers: Eagles – Joanne Besant 2; Pink – Tracey Bolan and Renae Herft.
Best and Fairest: Eagles – Holly Cooke; Pink – Tracey Bolan, Amanda Draper and Michaela Parker.
Middleton Maroon showed their experience over a young Magpies team, winning the match 3-0.

Best and Fairest: Middleton – Louise O’Leary, Cherie Simpson and Amanda Clutterbuck; Magpies – Illie Hewett, Brooke Kelly and Amy Tanswell.
Cellar Crows Black defeated a depleted Cellar Crows Aqua team 5-0.
Goal-scorers: Black – Michelle Yeo 2, Toni Speakman 2 and Erika McNaughton.
Best and Fairest: Black – Michelle Yeo and Lyndal Matthews; Aqua – Emily Blackstock, Lucy Blackstock and Penny Sense.
Rovers and Marist had a very tight game with Rovers just gaining the victory with a 1-0 score-line.
Samie Afele was a stand-out performer bagging six points for the match.
