The Western NSW Local Health District has introduced Staff Specialist positions for doctors to work as a Rural Generalist, and there's a role available for the Lachlan Health Service.
The Health District says the roles offer broader opportunities in both clinical and non-clinical hospital work, on a full-time or part-time basis.
Scott McLachlan, WNSWLHD Chief Executive, says the new Rural Generalist Staff Specialist positions have a lot of advantages and have been developed to provide a more attractive offer to potential candidates.
"As leadership positions, these roles are responsible for the provision of best practice clinical services, quality, and safety across a facility," he said.
"This includes the opportunity to teach both staff and students, and to participate in system improvement activities across a broad range of hospital operations including management, quality and safety, clinical services and governance, and both coordination and continuity of care."
Lachlan Health Service, which is Parkes and Forbes, provides procedural opportunities in obstetrics, anaesthetics and surgery, and visiting specialists attend both services regularly, providing opportunities for collaboration and growth, Mr McLachlan explained.
"The Rural Generalists will work in a team with colleagues locally and across services, for mentorship and support," he said.
"As a well-connected LHD and one of the leading innovators in virtual health, the role receives support from our virtual services.
"Participation in the hospital on-call roster is required, but it remains easy to make the most of all the lifestyle advantages of regional living with appropriate work-life balance.
"There is also a generous remuneration package available."
The Health District workforce increased by the equivalent of 614 full-time positions between 2012 and 2021, he said, an increase of 12.8 per cent including 107 more doctors, 210 more nurses and midwives and 71 more allied health staff.
