Parliamentary Secretary to the Deputy Premier, Sam Farraway MLC, announced that the NSW Government will be providing $160,000 worth of funding to ensure the festival will be bigger and better than ever after a hiatus due to COVID-19 in 2021.
To ensure the safety of all involved, the festival was moved from the traditional January date to April, but Mr Farraway said the NSW Regional Events Acceleration Fund will help next year's Parkes Elvis Festival deliver a bigger program of events, inspired by the 1968 movie classic Speedway.
"The multi-award-winning Parkes Elvis Festival will run from April 20-24 in 2022, attracting huge crowds of locals and visitors wanting to celebrate Elvis across five fabulous fun-filled days," he said.
"The Parkes Elvis Festival is considered one of Australia's most iconic events and with a global media reach of more than 400 million people, this all helps to put a big spotlight on the region and bring welcome tourism dollars to local businesses.
"Now in its 29th year, it's fantastic to see a bigger and better Parkes Elvis Festival with more than 200 themed events; including Elvis tribute performances, exhibitions and a vintage Speedway car show that will rev up the crowds like never before," said Mr Farraway.
Parkes Elvis Festival director Cathy Treasure said the NSW Government's support of the festival will help deliver a unique themed experience for locals, first-time visitors and enthusiastic Elvis fans.
"It's exciting to celebrate the festival with Speedway themed events and activities, and the opportunity to share this iconic festival experience with locals and visitors coming to Parkes," she said.
Ms Treasure said support from the Regional Events Acceleration Fund is a win-win for the event and the region as the Speedway themed event will help to increase visitation and drive economic activity.
The $20 million Regional Events Acceleration Fund is part of the $2 billion Regional Growth Fund, designed to support growing regional centres, activate local economies and improve services and community infrastructure for regional communities.
The ticket launch date for the festival will be moved to November 15 in line with the new Festival dates and the 2023 festival will return to its usual date in January.
And boy, us hound dogs should be very excited for the 2023.
The festival will celebrate its 30th anniversary and it will be the perfect time to reflect.
