We have a beautiful environment and strong culture of great astrophotography, and at the moment we are surrounded by all the beautiful colours of the springtime rainbow.
And more often than not, beauty can be found in the seemingly mundane, because that is what makes life special in Parkes.
Chair of RDA Central West, Ruth Fagan, said the competition is a wonderful platform to highlight everything that is special about our region.
"There truly is no place like home and the 'Central West is Best' photography competition is a great way to capture what you love most about your community," said Mrs Fagan.
"The Central West is a great place to live and we want to see entries that highlight why there is no place like it - this could be a place, person or an event - and entries also don't need to be current."
Entry into the competition is free and open to all ages and photographic abilities.
Entries close at 5pm on Friday, September 24 and there are two categories: junior (under 18) and open (ages 18 and up).
Prizes
- First place: Up to the value of $300 + Fujifilm Instax Mini 11 camera
- Runner-up: Up to the value of $200
- Two 'special mention' entries will receive a FujiFilm Instax Mini 11 photo kit
More information, including how to enter, can be found on the RDA Central West website at www.rdacentralwest.org.au
