Parkes Shire Council general manager Kent Boyd said at last Tuesday's August council meeting that it would a huge boon for the town to as part of the $187.2 million dollar Parkes Bypass project.
"Land owned by the council on the corner of the Condo road and proposed Highway bypass is part of the Special Activation Precinct (SAP), and during the course of the Regional Growth Development Corporation's (RGDC) assessment of the land, it was deemed suitable to accommodate facilities such as a National scale service centre," Mr Boyd said.
"This will be quite an exciting development for the town."

Given truck movements on the Newell Highway through Parkes are now at one-per-minute for 24 hours per day, 365 days a year - numbers that are forecast to double in the forseeable future - the Parkes Bypass and a potential large-scale service station would bring in a lot of money into the community.
Mr Boyd was keen to point out though, that the council was only looking into entering into a Memorandum of Understanding with a developer that would compliment the many flourishing business in Parkes - not work against them.
"We want to end up with a business that doesn't compete with our town's businesses, creates a gateway opportunity to the SAP and if we get the right developer, there is nearly 20 hectares in that precinct that could be developed for significant businesses that support our community," said Mr Boyd.
The council will now be looking at proposal for developing the 20 hectare site.
