"We've had heaps of motorbikes, single cylinders and twins and plenty of cars - four bangers and sixes, turbos and supercharged inductions, but this is our first V8," they said.
And what a V8 it is!
Far from the regular VS Statesman they went looking for, this one's an HSV 185i with just enough tricked up gear to make its presence felt.
It's a 1995 HSV VS Statesman and Warick told me a bit more about how and why they ended up buying it.
"I remember when I was working with the Railway, about three fellas had these Statesman's and the square back on them was always contentious - you either loved them or hated them. I loved them," he laughed.

So when Christine and Warick, who are life members of the Central West Car Club, were looking for another club car they decided to search for a VS Statesman.
It had to be a V8, and when this car popped up on Facebook Warick jumped on it.
"It'd been up for 20 minutes and I replied straightaway.
"I was sweating on it and when I hadn't had a reply after 10 minutes I tracked down the seller and the process began," Warick said.
The car was in Gatton and belonged to the sellers son, who had sadly passed away.
"We had a friend in Queensland check it out for us and he gave it the thumbs up telling the seller that 'it was just what Warick wanted.'
"We took a trailer up to Gatton and met the sellers who were lovely people.
"We can't thank them enough for agreeing to sell us the car under what was understandably sad and difficult circumstances," said Christine and Warick.
The Statesman has a 304 cubic inch V8 and 4-speed auto. There's full leather interior with all the 'mod cons' from 1995 and it's currently rolling on 18 inch rims. And it looks amazing in its original Botanica Blue Mica duco.
"We've got a few things to sort out to meet the NSW registration requirements but the plan is to get it on the road and enjoy some of our car club runs and events," Warick said.
