Western reps Tom Rix and Henry Kross were all business and went about taking care of the opening boys singles matches 6/1 and 6/0 respectively. Cudgegong though responded well with their Western rep out playing Milli Mackay 6/0. Kasey Morgan had a tough match up in her singles and was down 4/1 and then 5/1 but fought back to go down 6/3 which would prove crucial later in the day.
The boys doubles and girls doubles were split. With only the 2 mixed doubles matches remaining, the scores were locked at 3 sets each and Parkes East were ahead by just 1 game.
Henry and Kasey played a smart set in the number 2 mixed position winning 6/1. Tom and Milli had to score 1 game to win overall and managed 2 games after a thrilling final couple of games.
PEPS teacher Mrs Dunford did a fabulous job as Team Manager offering plenty of encouragement throughout the match. And nice to see Principal Mr Ostler visit to check on his charges and welcome the Cudgegong families.
Parkes East have now advanced to the final 8 teams in NSW where they will play the quarter final early next term.
CHS Tennis
Parkes High Open boys side went down to Dubbo Senior College last week in the Western Championships.
Some consolation was Joseph Tanswell being selected in the Western team after trials held in Orange a few days prior. Joe has been hitting the ball well and enjoying the challenge of the Monday night singles comp.
