The Parkes Special Activation Precinct is now gearing up for construction after the $126 million contract to design and build the site was announced on Thursday.

The contract for initial works - awarded to Fulton Hogan - comprises upgrades to local roads and supporting utilities, including sewer and water, electricity and gas, telecommunications, bridges and more than 7 kilometres of new roads.
Work on the design is already underway and the construction team is expected on site in the next month or so.
The final design will be made available on the Regional Growth NSW Development Corporation's website in the second half of 2021.
"This is a significant milestone for the Special Activation Precincts - with the vision of economic growth and jobs through the creation of these innovative business hubs soon to be realised," Regional Growth NSW Development Corporation CEO Brendan Nelson said.
"These precincts are going to be a huge boon for the bush.
"This is just the start - with up to 125 construction jobs coming online with this contract and up to 3000 jobs being created in total within the precinct."
Fulton Hogan is working through the design and expected to move to site to begin early work this June.
Construction work - which will include the upgrade of Brolgan Road to incorporate a roundabout with the new Coopers Road, two bridges over the railway lines, a new 30MVa sub-station and all associated utilities - is expected to be complete by March 2023.
Once complete, the new infrastructure will open around 1500 hectares for development.
Special Activation Precincts are being delivered by the Regional Growth NSW Development Corporation and funded by the $4.2 billion Snowy Hydro Legacy Fund.
There are five precincts - Parkes, Wagga, Moree, Snowy Mountains and Williamtown.
