Parkes was announced as one of 240 Business Fibre Zone locations to receive NBN Co's premium business-grade fibre Enterprise Ethernet at reduced wholesale prices to enable businesses to take up the new service.
NBN Co announced the $700 million Business Fibre Initiative in October last year, which included the creation of these Business Fibre Zones across the country.
The zones are designed to expand the access of Enterprise Ethernet to an estimated 700,000 businesses nationally at no charge for the fibre deployment to the service provider and at reduced wholesale prices.
NBN Co presented to the Parkes Chamber of Commerce's meeting on April 21 giving businesses an opportunity to learn more about the initiative and help them make the most of the wholesaler provider's new offering.
"The launch of the Business Fibre Initiative is an exciting investment for Parkes, providing a competitive edge for businesses looking to relocate, while also helping support local business innovation and competition into the digital age," Mr Rice said.
"The events of COVID highlight the importance of the nbn investment, with businesses now more aware that they need to digitally diversify to overcome the challenges of the pandemic.
"Now small and medium businesses in Parkes will have the opportunity to migrate to premium broadband solutions, at reduced wholesale prices, to support their digital requirements, further positioning Parkes as a viable business hub into the future."
Nbn Local General Manager Chris Cusack said the Business Fibre initiative is all about providing businesses with choice and availability to unlock potential growth and productivity gains associated with technology investment and adoption, including job creation.
"An estimated 717 Parkes businesses will have access to fast and reliable connectivity at a time when reliance on driving online presence, digital collaboration platforms and cloud-based tools has never been more significant for businesses," he said.
"Meeting with organisations, such as the Parkes Chamber of Commerce, is part of NBN Co's ongoing commitment to educate communities and ensure businesses are aware of the solutions available for continued resilience and growth into the future."
Enterprise Ethernet is NBN Co's fastest symmetrical wholesale product and premium-grade business offering.
It has options for prioritised traffic, high capacity and symmetrical upload and download wholesale speeds from 10Mbps to close to 1Gbps1, as well as enhanced 24/7 support through the business nbn™ Operations Centre with a dedicated team located in Australia.
