On Friday a jury found Dr Thet not guilty of three counts of aggravated sexual assault following a two-week trial in Dubbo District Court.

The crown had argued the 65-year-old had sexually assaulted two of his patients during their consultations in 2013 and 2018 for his "own sexual gratification".

The jury heard evidence from both women, along with family members and friends, in addition to medical experts about medical procedures and guidelines. The jury also viewed text messages between the doctor and patients.

During closing arguments, defence barrister Matthew Johnston argued the touching of the two patients wasn't for sexual gratification, but for a proper medical purpose.

"It was two separate clients, five years apart with two different factual circumstances," Mr Johnston said.

"He's well respected in the local community, he's clearly committed himself to moving out to the country and working hard to look after his patients."

Mr Johnston said when Dr Thet was first notified he was under investigation he told police he's "got nothing to hide".

Following the verdict of not guilty, Judge Nanette Williams formally discharged Dr Thet, who walked free from court with his wife.
